IMMIGRATION LAW AND BORDERS: A LEGAL FICTION
Mon Nov 3rd – 6pm – 2775 Cottage Way #15
With Giselle
Immigration courts are rendering life altering decisions, while failing to grant respondents a high standard of due process. Our laws say borders are real, deportation is not punishment, and entry into the country is a privilege that is awarded. All fiction penned by white supremacist architects. Do we burn this book?

INTERMEDIATE FIRST AID
Sun Nov 9 – 1pm – Venue Change! Now at Toro Z 3749 Stockton Blvd, Sacramento, CA 95820 Suite A and B

INTRO TO ANARCHISM
Sat Nov 8th – 7pm – 2775 Cottage Way #15
With Eric
Anarchism has had a major influence on social movements across history, from the labor movement to the environmental movement to various civil rights movements, both through the use of tactics like direct action and mutual aid as well as the participation of anarchists themselves. Whether you already call yourself an anarchist, think you might be one, or you don’t know anything about anarchism at all, learning the history of these movements and the ideas they generated can help us build better paths to the future. In this class we will look at how the anarchist movement began and introduce the basic principles that tie the various schools of thought together.

INTRODUCTION TO ANIMAL TRACK INTERPRETATION
Sun Nov 2 & 16 – 9am – location TBD (RSVP for location to sacvalleytracks@gmail.com)
With Minch
A morning spent in the field learning about local animals and the signs they leave as they move through the world. We’ll look at how to identify tracks and sign and what we can learn about animals through them. Participants should be prepared for ~1 mile of relaxed hiking getting to track sites and varied terrain while looking at tracks.

NAVIGATING THE CRIMINAL LEGAL SYSTEM
Fri Oct 24th – 6pm – 2775 Cottage Way #15
With Autumn & Gurdeep
This class will take a look at the path folks take through the criminal system, from being detained to the courtroom. We will also discuss how to support people who have been through the criminal system.

ON THE SELF DEFENSE DOCTRINE
Mon Nov 17th – 6pm – 2775 Cottage Way #15
Got punched? Punched back? The doctrine of self-defense requires narrow and specific circumstances to protect you from charges. This is why we see many women who fight back their abusers end up incarcerated – they don’t meet the elements of “lawful” self-defense. Let’s discuss the legal fiction and incorporate that knowledge into our community defense practices.

SALMON WALK
(Note the corrected RSVP Email address)
Sat Nov 15th – 1pm – Effie Yeaw Nature Ctr
With Sylvia and Theo
The fall salmon run on the American river is an amazing thing to witness! Join us on a mostly level one-mile hike through oak woodlands to the banks of the river to learn about these amazing creatures, their important role in the ecosystem, and to watch them catch air as they swim upstream to spawn. Sensible shoes recommended. Hard rain will cancel.
*Meet at the picnic tables by the parking lot. Parking is $7 per vehicle, or email me for free parking nearby. RSVP by 11/12 to sacramentofreeschool@riseup.net

FUTURE FREE SCHOOL CLASSES
Spring, 2026
Have a skill or idea you’d like to share? Want to help build a vibrant and resilient community beyond capitalism and authoritarianism? We would love to hear what you have in mind! Our next calendar comes out in February, and the deadline for submissions is January 5th, 2026. We are particularly interested in classes that build practical skills, help us connect with one another, and address current political struggles and events. Examples of what we hope to see are: radical history, construction skills, sewing, fire awareness, anti-authoritarian movements, digital security, food preservation, gardening, HAM radio, art, theater, music and language classes.

At Sacramento Free School masks are welcome but are not required unless a teacher/facilitator requests that masks be worn. Please read the entire class description before attending a class.
