An ongoing weekly reading group focusing on anarchist history and theory. No need to read the material before, we read the text and discuss it together.

Animal Track Interpretation (CLASS FULL- Email for waitlist)

A morning spent in the field learning about local animals and the signs they leave as they move through the world. We’ll look at how to identify tracks and sign and what we can learn about animals through them. Participants should be prepared for ~1 mile of relaxed hiking getting to track sites and varied terrain while looking at tracks.

Art As An Outlet

An art class exploring how to let go and express emotion freely through art without worrying about technical quality. The class will include examples of artists who have used art to express pain and rebellion, discussion of how children use art freely to communicate, and art activities geared to capturing that freedom. Backpacking 101

This class will teach the basics of backpacking with lots of hands-on demonstrations! Learn what to pack, local beginner spots, how to use a backpacking stove, layering clothes, bear & lightning safety, how to make backpacking more affordable, how to prevent blisters, maps to bring and more! Even if you are not sure if you are ready to try backpacking this is a great way to learn (non-toxic) prepping skills. Please wear a mask.

Basic Auto Care for Everyday Life

This course is intended to give anyone the basics on vehicles that are daily driven, including inspections and simple maintenance. We will also highlight auto light inspection, diagnoses and replacement for volunteers interested in volunteering for the NorCal Resist auto light clinic. It is also intended to bring knowledge to the less vocal volunteers to feel included and have a place to ask questions and make connections.

Building radical community sometimes means building actual structures. This class is an introduction to using basic hand tools, including saws, drills, impact drivers, and hammers. We will learn basic tool safety and building techniques, and then we will frame and assemble a structure together. Intended for anyone with little or no experience using tools.

Changing the Course of History: A Better Past is Possible

Overview of cloth diapering and natural infant hygiene, aka elimination communication. This exchange will be participant-led and may cover topics such as the benefits of cloth diapering, types and sizes of cloth diapers, and how to use cloth diapers and care for them. We’ll also discuss overcoming barriers such as lack of time, societal judgment or stigma, and daycare. Come learn with us and share your experiences; all who love or use cloth diapers are welcome.

Cybersecured: Digital Security (Note updated class length- extended to include time for hands-on workshop)

The goal of the course is to improve digital hygiene through awareness of how the internet functions, along with simple practices that can provide large digital risk mitigation. Topics may include link trackers, wifi packet tracing, secure password management, and a workshop where we identify and disable PII-risky settings on our mobile devices so people can better protect themselves from how data can be compromised.

DIY Backyard Composting

In this class we’ll discuss how to construct low cost backyard compost bins, how to use the bins to convert household waste to compost, and how to use the compost to improve garden soil and reduce or eliminate the need for purchased fertilizers, as well as the importance of caring for our soils and reducing our dependence on the corporate food system. At the end of class, folks can build bins if interested..

First Aid

We will cover the basics of bleeding control, treating chemical irritants like pepper spray, and concepts for care and safety at protests. You will learn the kinds of medical skills that will get you to the medics okay. All skill levels welcome, no prior training needed. Outdoors, masking required.

Mobility Justice & the Built Environment

This two-part class will include critical conversations about mobility and the built environment, as well as a ride on the SacRT bus and light rail system, organized on a free fare day. We’ll explore the possibility transit might represent and the current reality of our system. At the first class we will discuss facets of transit and the built environment and prepare for the free transit ride. The second meeting will take place on a free transit day (March 7th 11am Sacramento City College Blue Line Stop) and we will meet up to ride both bus and light rail together, ending with a picnic.

Security Culture Reading Group

An introductory reading and discussion group on security culture from various perspectives and scenes. This will not be a space to plan or discuss actions, both real or theoretical– it is a space to learn about how we can keep each other safe and build trust with friends and affinity groups.
