Information for Teachers
Have a skill or idea you’d like to share? Want to help build a vibrant and resilient community beyond capitalism and authoritarianism? We would love to hear what you have in mind!
Our next calendar comes out in February, and the deadline for submissions is January 5th, 2026.
Before you submit a class proposal, read over our guidelines and wishlist to determine if Free School might be the right place for your class.
Guidelines
Central to Free School is the breaking down of traditional teacher/student relationships. You don’t need to be an expert, and we welcome collaborate learning workshops, skillshares, and discussion groups. Here are some things to consider before submitting a proposal:
- Structure: how will your class teach to varied learning styles (visual, hands-on, conversational, etc), and how does that structure contribute to the skill or information you are sharing. If your class will primarily be a lecture, consider breaking into small groups or partners to increase engagement and learning.
- Solo or co-teaching: consider whether your class is best taught by you alone, with someone else, or as a facilitated or open conversation in which attendees learn and share together.
- Classroom setup : how you arrange seating influences the relationships and dynamics of attendees. Do you want seats set up in a circle, in small groups, or with everyone facing the teacher?
- Location: Free School classes can be held anywhere! In homes, public libraries, community parks, coffee shops, sidewalks, wherever you want! If you have difficulty finding an appropriate location, please contact us and we can help.
Wishlist
We want to know what you have to offer! We are particularly interested in classes that build practical skills, help us connect with one another, and address current political struggles and events. Examples of what we hope to see are: reading groups, food preservation, radical history, building skills, HAM radio, street medic skills, fire awareness, plant identification, digital security, film showings, music classes, dance, public speaking, theater, and language classes.
