What is a Free School?

Free Schools are part of a long lineage of Anarchist and anti-authoritarian educational experiments that aim to create opportunities for sharing knowledge within our communities and beyond. Sacramento Free School continues this project and takes specific inspiration from the following free schools nearby:

From our homepage:

Sacramento  Free School is a project in community-based education, rooted in anarchist, non-hierarchical and anti-authoritarian principles. It is a collective effort to create a radically different approach to living and learning, free from financial and institutional control. With this project, we hope to create a space for learning that builds communities of mutual aid and support and inspires us to reclaim our ability to learn for ourselves. Classes are informal, egalitarian, and held in community spaces, homes, and parks. It is our opportunity to learn from each other, build vital communities, and create beauty in the world.

What does all that mean? Free School is a series of workshops and skillshares that are free to participate in. Want to attend a class? Just take a look at the calendar, pick a class or activity, RSVP if necessary, and show up at the listed time and place. Have a skill or idea that you want to share with others? Read over our information for teachers, and email us at sacramentofreeschool@riseup.net.

If Free School brings you a little closer to liberation, we are thrilled by your participation in the project!
